Acne often occurs during times of hormonal imbalances in the body. Hormonal changes cause glands to produce more oil than normal, which causes the skin pores to get clogged and allow bacteria to grow.
Eat healthily. Foods that are highly processed and contain a lot of oils greatly increase the amount of acne on your body. Getting the proper amount of nutrients from whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and protein help your skin to regenerate faster and limit unnecessary oil production. When at all possible, avoid foods that are processed or contain a lot of sugar (think junk foods).
Keep in mind with microdermabrasion, you won’ be able to treat very deep acne scars. If you suffer from severe acne scarring, lasers or deep chemical peeling would be more suited to get a more drastic resurfacing treatment (with longer downtime and higher risks though).

Bactrim can be effective in treating acne by blocking synthesis of folic acid of the bacteria. However, it’s rarely used because other agents have been proven more effective. Patients should be counseled on GI upset, photosensitivity, and skin AEs including itching, peeling, and development of a rash indicating an allergic reaction. Furthermore, bactrim isn’t favored for long-term use due to the rare but potential development of neutropenia, agranulocytosis, anemia, and thrombocytopenia.
Antibiotics taken by mouth for relatively extended periods can be very effective in controlling acne. Although the development of resistant bacteria is a theoretical concern as a result of protracted courses of antibiotics, this does not seem to occur commonly in acne patients. Still, the goal of treatment regimens is to graduate patients of systemic antibiotics as soon as feasible. As with any systemic medication, they can be associated with more side effects than if applied to the skin and may interact with other drugs. Sensitivity to the sun can result in a “bad sunburn” in some who take antibiotics in the tetracycline family.
Patients should be advised to wash their face gently with warm water and mild soap or cleanser, twice daily. An un-medicated face-wash is sufficient, although products containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid can be effective. Rough scrubbing should be avoided as it causes follicular rupture, increasing the inflammatory response. Patients with sensitive skin, e.g. atopic dermatitis, should avoid soap, and anti-acne cleansers may cause irritation and contact dermatitis.
People who have mild acne have a few blemishes. They may have whiteheads, blackheads, papules, and/or pustules (aka pimples). Many people can treat mild acne with products that you can buy without a prescription. A product containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid often clears the skin. This does not mean that the acne will clear overnight.

If done incorrectly, a cortisone shot can leave a small depression in the skin that lasts about eight weeks. “It’s a rare side effect that happens if dosage of cortisone is too high,” explains Linkner. “You want to go to someone who knows what they’re doing.”
4. Reexamine your diet. As for the diet component, you’ve probably heard the rumors that fried food and dairy products is associated with acne, but do you know why? Sugar, spicy ingredients, dairy and fried foods are all testosterone triggers. Too much testosterone triggers your sebaceous glands to produce more sebum. Sebum is the natural mixture of wax and oil that helps to keep your skin healthy and moisturized, but too much sebum can clog pores and become a breeding ground for P. acnes bacteria. While going vegan and gluten free won’t solve your problems, being aware of your intake of testosterone triggering food may be helpful in controlling your acne.

The diagnosis of acne vulgaris is primarily clinical.4 History and physical examination can help determine if there is an underlying cause of the acne, such as an exacerbating medication or endocrinologic abnormality causing hyperandrogenism (e.g., polycystic ovarian syndrome). Other dermatologic manifestations of androgen excess include seborrhea, hirsutism and androgenetic alopecia. Endocrinologic testing is not ordered routinely for women with regular menstrual cycles.2,3 Older women, especially those with new-onset acne and other signs of androgen excess (e.g., hirsutism, androgenic alopecia, menstrual irregularities, infertility), should be tested for androgen excess with measurements of total and free serum testosterone, dihydroepiandrosterone, and luteinizing and follicle-stimulating hormone levels.5 Pelvic ultrasonography may show the presence of polycystic ovaries.5 In prepubertal children with acne, signs of hyperandrogenism include early-onset accelerated growth, pubic or axillary hair, body odour, genital maturation and advanced bone age.
In reality acne is an internal disease that leads to inflammation. Your diet and life style are the main contributors to acne. Toxins in your food and daily stress trigger hormonal spike, which can lead to acne breakout. Your hormone is the number one factor in triggering acne formation. If you can control it, you already win half the battle!
Exfoliate regularly. This is very helpful when you want to get rid of dark spots from acne, but you have to know how often you need to exfoliate. For oily skin, you can do it twice a week depending on how oily your skin is. For normal skin, you can do it once a week.
Of course, don’t expect overnight results. You need to be patient, wait for your skin to heal and renew itself. It will take some time but eventually, you will certainly be satisfied with the look of your new skin 🙂

Eliminating sugar, drinking plenty of water and getting your omega-3 foods can make a difference. Too much sugar can cause insulin spikes, which can create inflammation in the skin and clog up the pores. Water, conversely, hydrates, and it seems we cannot get enough of it. Make sure to get at least half your bodyweight in ounces every day.

Honestly, I’ve only had almost-perfect skin when I was using a harsh prescription cream (would never do that again), and at times when I have been overall healthy (mind, diet, lifestyle habits). Meaning, I have never noticed a significant difference related to products or food. I went on an elimination diet a few years ago, and was eating so cleanly– no processed foods whatsoever, no gluten, no refined sugars, no meat/dairy. This lasted 3 weeks, and I did not notice much of a difference with my face. Obviously everyone is different, and I’ve realized my main problem is stress. I mean, it could be a lot worse if I ate horribly (I am vegan– not that I noticed much of a difference when I changed my diet– not that it was that bad before), but unfortunately I am one of those people that can’t get an easy fix. Fixing your state of mind, and how you respond to stress, is probably the hardest thing to do. But I’m working on it.
Try spot treatments with a 2% salicylic acid product. Apply gentle, even pressure to the blemish on both sides with two cotton swabs. If anything is ready to come out, it will then. Don’t squeeze, and never use your fingers.
This really burned my skin I just dabbed it on the pimples and it left a dark spots like a chemical burn on the skin. My skin became red,hot, and dark.
