Light treatments: Recent years have brought reports of success in treating acne using special lights and similar devices, alone or in conjunction with photosensitizing dyes. It appears that these treatments are safe and can be effective, but it is not clear that their success is lasting. At this point, laser treatment of acne is best thought of as an adjunct to conventional therapy, rather than as a substitute.
Vitamin A derivatives (such as retinol) dry sebum and remove the upper layers of skin. They commonly cause skin side effects such as stinging, burning, redness or peeling. Rhassoul clay is a wonderful alternative. It reduces oil production without drying the skin out, leaving the skin soft and smooth. More studies are needed to resolve the long-standing controversy about the role of diet and acne. When it comes to skin health, you are what you eat. Consuming too many greasy foods like pizza will make your skin overproduce oils that can lead to clogged pores. Processed foods will also put unnatural chemicals and free radicals in the body that leaves skin dull, puffy or irritated.
Cosmetics: Some cosmetics and skin-care products are pore clogging (“comedogenic”). Of the many available brands of skin-care products, it is important to read the list of ingredients and choose those which have water listed first or second if one is concerned about acne. These “water-based” products are usually best for those with acne.

On this subject, Renée is most clear: “Whenever a blemish appears, the goal is to get it to heal quickly. Most people have a myriad of zit-zapping spot treatments in their bathroom and will apply these generously the moment a blemish pops up in hopes of drying it out to get it to go away more rapidly. But most spot treatments actually make the blemish stick around longer when used in this way. It will also lead to a prolonged recovery time with scarring.” The reason is that when used too early, the drying lotion will dry out the skin on top of the infection, actually trapping the infection from coming out. “Have you ever tried to squeeze a blemish that has been dried out with a spot treatment? I’m sure you’ve experienced sheets of skin peeling off which will result in more scarring. Not good,” Renée says. “The best solution is to leave it alone to get rid of it faster.” Frustrating, but probably true.
Topical antibiotics available in combination with benzoyl peroxide include clindamycin (preferred) and erythromycin. Azelaic acid and salicylic acid are sometimes used for their comedolytic effects, but azelaic acid can cause lightening of the skin and should be used cautiously with darker skin tones.
The most commonly prescribed topical retinoids for acne vulgaris include adapalene, tazarotene, and tretinoin. These retinoids should be applied once daily to clean, dry skin, but they may need to be applied less frequently if irritation occurs. Skin irritation with peeling and redness may be associated with the early use of topical retinoids and typically resolves within the first few weeks of use.  The use of mild, nonirritating cleansers and noncomedogenic moisturizers may help reduce this irritation.  Alternate-day dosing may be used if irritation persists.
Considerations: Regardless of the type of antibiotic prescribed, only about one half of patients respond. When antibiotics do produce results, these results are moderate at best.5-8Oral antibiotics should be used for only a short period of time, up to 6 months. However, even within this short time frame, antibiotics have been implicated in the proliferation of resistant colonies of bacteria. Some antibiotics cause increased sensitivity to sunlight. Exposure to the sun could cause a rash, itchiness, or redness, and you may be burnt more easily, so you’ll want to wear protective clothing and sunscreen.2Side effects may include upset stomach, diarrhea, nausea, headache, vomiting, dizziness, or light-headedness as your body becomes accustomed to it.2Minocycline is less prescribed because it works no better than any other antibiotic and comes with safety concerns, including the possibility of irreversible skin pigmentation.8-10

Many people use honey for healing burns and small cuts because it has natural antibiotics and antiseptics that speed up the healing process and prevent infections. With such properties, you can use honey to get rid of pimples. Because it also has moisturizing properties, you can treat your pimples without drying your skin. Using a cotton swab, put honey directly on your pimple and leave it on for at least half an hour. Afterward, wash your face with lukewarm water. Alternatively, you can use honey as a facial mask and make it part of your facial regimen. Even without pimples or before the pimples have the chance to get big, you can dab honey onto your face and leave it on for 15 to 30 minutes or longer. In the morning your face will be soft and supple and there will be less inflammation.

The genetic rationale behind it is that the hyperactive sebaceous glands produce a lot of sebum, leading to pimple formation. In this case, you should consult a skin specialist as home remedies and natural methods may not provide a permanent solution to your problem. For serious acne or pimples, oral medication is necessary for a particular time period. Procedures such as chemical peels and microdermabrasion can be very effective as they minimize the occurrence of acne and also reduce acne spots and blemishes (1, 2).
Cinnamon and Honey Mask: Mix two tablespoons of raw honey, one teaspoon of coconut oil and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Smooth over face. Keep away from eyes, as the cinnamon can be an irritant. Relax for 5–10 minutes and gently remove with damp cloth. Honey and cinnamon used together helps to fight acne because of its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial properties.
So make some changes to your meals. A study in the American Journal of Nutrition suggests you may have fewer breakouts if you add more whole grains, beans, and veggies and cut back on pasta, white rice, white bread, and sugar.
