Do not compare yourself to other people. It is easy to look at other people and feel like you are inadequate. You may feel that other people are more attractive than you or have better skin. Remember that you are only competing with yourself. You see other people from an outside perspective, but you do not know what their life is really like. Focus on yourself and the wonderful qualities that you have. If you are working to improve yourself in any area, track your progress and celebrate the victories, big and small.

Lesions occur primarily on the face, neck, upper back and chest.4 When assessing the severity of the acne, one needs to consider the distribution (back, chest, upper arms), type and number of lesions (comedones, papules, pustules, nodules) and the presence or absence of scarring (Table 1).2,3
The main ingredients to look for in acne products are benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. “Products that contain salicylic acid unplug the pores and those with benzoyl peroxide are mild anti-inflammatories and also kill or stop bacteria from growing,” says Charles E. Crutchfield III, MD, who teaches dermatology at the University of Minnesota Medical School.
Antibiotics. These work by killing excess skin bacteria and reducing redness. For the first few months of treatment, you may use both a retinoid and an antibiotic, with the antibiotic applied in the morning and the retinoid in the evening. The antibiotics are often combined with benzoyl peroxide to reduce the likelihood of developing antibiotic resistance. Examples include clindamycin with benzoyl peroxide (Benzaclin, Duac, Acanya) and erythromycin with benzoyl peroxide (Benzamycin). Topical antibiotics alone aren’t recommended.

To better understand the effects, the study increased the concentration of the rosemary essential oil, resulting in severely damaged bacterial bodies. Treated bacteria eventually led to bacterial death. (16)
Combination therapy, for example with retinoids and antibiotics, is more effective than either agent used alone.13 However, the agents should be applied at separate times, unless they are known to be compatible.3 Benzoyl peroxide may oxidize a retinoid such as tretinoin if it is applied simultaneously.14 A 12-week randomized controlled trial involving 249 patients with mild to moderate acne showed treatment with adapalene gel 0.1% and clindamycin 1.0% to be superior to that with clindamycin 1.0% used alone.15 If inflammatory lesions are present, topical antibiotics containing benzoyl peroxide should be combined with a topical retinoid (e.g., topical antibiotic with benzoyl peroxide in the morning and retinoid at night). A review of three clinical studies with 1259 patients showed that a combination of clindamycin 1% and benzoyl peroxide 5% was more effective than either drug used alone in reducing lesions and suppressing P. acnes.16
The path to clear skin is often one of trial and error; you might need to try several acne remedies before you find the right treatment for the types of acne affecting your skin. Before trying acne medication, you may prefer to give different natural acne treatment options a chance. While there is no research supporting the effective use of natural acne treatments, here are two popular options that you may want to try.
Two factors are clear: a low-glycemic diet produces fewer pimples, the stricter the low-glycemic diet is applied, the more effective the treatment will be. Up to 50% reduction in acne lesions were observed among patients with acne who adhered to a strict low-glycemic index diet in just 12 weeks. There is alsoevidence that milk and other dairy products can contribute to acne, which works through the same mechanism of IGF-1 stimulation mentioned above.
