“Acne Queen -Acne Scar Removal Microdermabrasion “

Benzoyl peroxide clears the pores and reduces bacterial count by creating an environment where bacteria cannot survive. It dries skin and works as a peeling agent. It commonly causes dryness and irritation, and in some can cause burning, itching, peeling and swelling. Topical use of green tea reduces sebum production and protects against acne-causing bacteria. Its high antioxidant concentration eliminates the free radicals that lead to inflammation.

Based on Chinese face mapping techniques and Ayurveda, your face is divided into different zones that denote different systems or organs in the body. A pimple in a particular zone signifies that there is an issue with the system/organ it stands for. The different zones are listed below:

“Overwashing your face can make acne worse,” Dr. Kazin explains. Cleansing more than twice a day is too much and can just dry out skin, “which can cause [it] to produce more oil to overcompensate.” Your Clarisonic addiction may not be helping either. “It helps remove all makeup and helps your cleanser work better, but I worry about the coarse ones. It’s almost like giving yourself microdermabrasion twice a day, which can cause a breakout,” says Dr. Kazin. Dr. Schultz seconds that: “Anything that rubs skin will, to a small extent, promote acne.” That includes a grainy or gritty cleanser, too. Try these two gentle face washes instead: Phace Bioactive Detoxifying Gel Cleanser or Frank Body Creamy Face Cleanser.

“Jessner Peels help to reduce acne lesions overnight by drying them out. They also help to remove the top layers of the skin that cause dry skin and acne flareups. It’s important to note that the use of retin-A may cause the acids in the peel to intensify, so if you are using a prescription retin-A it’s important to stop using it one week prior to getting the peel,” says Dr. Bank. For those with less severe acne or occasional breakouts, there are other types of chemical peels your derm can give you to exfoliate your skin, dry up acne, and help create an instant glow (great for if you’re trying to remove a few lingering pimples before a big event in a few days).

“People who have oily skin often steer clear of moisturizers, worrying that they’ll make their skin look even shinier,” Kazin says. That’s a bad idea. “Even oily skin needs to be moisturized to look its best,” she says. To avoid an oily sheen, choose an oil-free moisturizer. Vary the amount you apply depending on whether the area tends to be dry or oily.

A hypertrophic scar or keloid  appears more raised. It appears like a small mass of tissue that’s slightly raised and bumpy. It’s rare for a scar like this to grow larger on the face, but it has been observed to do so, more commonly, when found on torso.

PAULA’S CHOICE VS. EXPOSED SKIN CARE As much as I hate to admit it fellas, I fell for it. Blackheads are a mild form of acne that appear as unsightly, open pores that appear darker than the skin surrounding them. They get their dark appearance from a skin pigment called melanin, which oxidizes and turns black when it’s exposed to the air. Blackheads aren’t caused by dirt, but by sebum (oil) and dead skin cells blocking the pore. If the pore remains open, it becomes a blackhead; if it’s completely blocked and closed, it turns into a whitehead.

Other side effects are dry skin and lips, muscle and joint pain, headache, elevated triglyceride levels (a type of cholesterol), and, rarely, thinning hair. For most people taking these drugs, side effects are tolerable and not a reason to discontinue therapy before the acne clears up.

Laser treatments are non-invasive procedures, making them a popular choice for those looking to get rid of acne scars. It’s a quick procedure (performed in a series of sessions) with minimal discomfort and minimal healing time. Laser treatment works by shooting out pulses of intense light that penetrate the skin’s layers. This stimulates collagen production, increases the rate of cell renewal and helps tighten up the skin. There are four general types of laser acne treatment: fractional laser treatment, carbon dioxide laser treatment, erbium laser treatment, and pixilation. A licensed professional can help you determine which type of treatment is best suited to your skin.

Azelaic acid. Another topical is azelaic acid, which comes in a gel or cream and has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It is more commonly used for another type of condition called rosacea, but it may help mild acne.

This kind of scar is called “ice pick” because they look like holes that have been made by an ice pick or any other sharp, pointy object. An ice pick scar extends until the dermis, which could look like an open pore.

Pore strips, whether purchased over the counter or created at home, use an adhesive to cling to the impurities blocking the pore and ultimately remove the plug. Pore strips do remove pore plugs and dead surface skin cells, but they won’t prevent blackheads from returning. Immediately after using them, your pores will shrink and appear smaller.

The medical term for pimples or acne is “acne vulgaris”. For years it has been postulated that hormones and medication can cause acne. According to Ref.1 there are several steps that work together in causing acne. The hair follicle and sebaceous gland work as one unit. Male hormones, called androgens play an important role in the development of acne, both in males and females. Testosterone in males is not only produced in testicles, but also in the skin itself. It gets converted by an enzyme, 5-alpha-reductase, into the much more active metabolite dihydrotestosterone. In individuals with hypersensitive receptors in the sebaceous gland this will cause blockage in the sebaceous gland duct and at the same time stimulate the sebaceous gland oil production leading to the formation of a keratotic plug. White heads and black heads are formed this way. Contributing factors are inflammatory substances that are caused by insulin release stimulated by sugar, wheat and starch intake. This stimulates IGF-1 receptors in the skin, which causes growth of the subcutaneous skin layers, which is pushing up from the layer below the skin, kinking the sebaceous gland duct and causing acne pustules (pimples) to form. A skin bacterium, called Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes), is getting trapped in the pimple causing a local skin infection, which in turn can cause acne cysts and furuncles, particularly in males where there is a family history of acne. High cortisol levels from stress can also be a contributing factor in causing acne. Today’s teenagers are exposed to a lot of stresses from exams, competitive sports and peer pressures.

Each inflamed spot will heal eventually. In some cases, the area of skin that was inflamed remains discoloured for several months after the inflammation has gone (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation). This is often more noticeable in darker-skinned people. Also, a small pitted scar is commonly left on the skin where there was an inflamed spot. These small scars often do not fade fully and are a marker in older people that they once had inflamed acne spots.

Coconut oil is an emollient and hydrates the skin to keep it supple. It also has antibacterial properties due to which it is added to moisturizers and lotions (26). Its antioxidants heal the skin and help in the regeneration of skin cells (27). Be it adult acne or teenage acne due to hormonal changes, coconut oil is a remedy for all.

Oral or Topical Antibiotics: Dermatologist prescription is required. Antibiotics are used to stop the growth of acne as well as to reduce* inflammation. Common oral antibiotics are Erythromycin and Tetracycline as a treatment to get rid of acne

The most popular over-the-counter products, such as Proactiv, contain benzoyl peroxide but at lower concentrations than most prescription-strength products. Proactiv, a system of cleansing products in which benzoyl peroxide 2.5% is the active ingredient, is claimed to enhance compliance by providing a cosmetically elegant product that also minimizes irritation. The makers of Proactiv also market Gentle Formula, which replaces benzoyl peroxide with salicylic acid for people with allergy or intolerance. There have been few studies assessing the efficacy of the Proactiv system. In one open-label study of 23 patients with mild to moderate acne, inflammatory lesions were reduced by 39% in patients using a combination of butenifine (an allylamine) and benzoyl peroxide compared with 34% in those using Proactiv.18

Yogurt: use plain yogurt and add a little lemon juice. Mix well and using your hands, apply to your skin. Leave on for fifteen minutes and wash off with warm water. You should repeat this twice a day.

With millions of people affected by acne every year, the American Academy of Dermatology reports acne is the most prevalent skin condition in the United States—with many sufferers who are well past puberty. For those battling regular breakouts, studies show acne isn’t purely a cosmetic issue, can also contribute to poor self-esteem or depression. “As an adult, there is no such thing as mild acne,” says Doris Day, MD, of Day Dermatology and Aesthetics. “Every pimple is an insult and lasts too long.” (Here are sneaky reasons you’re having an acne breakout.) Fortunately, between classic methods and continually emerging dermatological technology, it is possible to achieve clear skin.

Complementary therapies have been investigated for treating people with acne.[108] Low-quality evidence suggests topical application of tea tree oil or bee venom may reduce the total number of skin lesions in those with acne.[108] Tea tree oil is thought to be approximately as effective as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, but has been associated with allergic contact dermatitis.[1] Proposed mechanisms for tea tree oil’s anti-acne effects include antibacterial action against P. acnes, and anti-inflammatory properties.[63] Numerous other plant-derived therapies have been observed to have positive effects against acne (e.g., basil oil and oligosaccharides from seaweed); however, few studies have been performed, and most have been of lower methodological quality.[109] There is a lack of high-quality evidence for the use of acupuncture, herbal medicine, or cupping therapy for acne.[108]

The box car scar has a depressed appearance because of some tissue loss. When the skin over the inflammation heals and is left hollow without support, this creates a depression. The amount of tissue loss will determine the severity of the scar. It could be superficial if the inflammation didn’t run too deep.
