Some people swear by the disinfecting power of tea tree oil for acne treatment. It can be applied either full strength or slightly diluted with water directly onto pimples. Use a small amount on a clean cotton swab or cotton pad and dab on the affected areas immediately after cleansing. Because tea tree oil can be drying, you might choose to use both tea tree oil and coconut oil for acne as part of your clear skin regimen.
Isotretinoin is a powerful drug that’s used to treat the most severe cases of acne. Your doctor may recommend this drug if you have severe acne that doesn’t get better with other medications, including antibiotics.
That’s good news because the British Medical Journal reports that acne affects more than 80 percent of teenagers and continues in adult life in 3 percent of men and 12 percent of women. Honestly, I’ve only had almost-perfect skin when I was using a harsh prescription cream (would never do that again), and at times when I have been overall healthy (mind, diet, lifestyle habits). Meaning, I have never noticed a significant difference related to products or food. I went on an elimination diet a few years ago, and was eating so cleanly– no processed foods whatsoever, no gluten, no refined sugars, no meat/dairy. This lasted 3 weeks, and I did not notice much of a difference with my face. Obviously everyone is different, and I’ve realized my main problem is stress. I mean, it could be a lot worse if I ate horribly (I am vegan– not that I noticed much of a difference when I changed my diet– not that it was that bad before), but unfortunately I am one of those people that can’t get an easy fix.

6) Stay out of the sun. A nice suntan may look healthy and often makes acne less noticeable, but the effect is temporary and tanning not only damages your skin but also encourages acne flare-ups. This applies to tanning beds as well. It’s especially important that you avoid too much sun when taking certain anti-acne medications as many medications make your skin more sensitive and thus more easily damaged by UV rays.
